Bedroom remodelers seeking romantic, intimate look.

Bedroom furniture just got a bump. A recent U.S. Houzz Bedroom Trends survey says that one-third of homeowners renovating or decorating their master bedrooms want to create a more romantic or intimate environment.
The report says that a quarter of homeowners are budgeting or spending $10,000 or more on master bedroom renovations, and one in five is spending $5,000 or more on decorating projects (19 percent) across all project scopes, according to the survey of more than 1,500 U.S. homeowners in the midst of or planning a bedroom renovation or decoration project. Fifty-seven percent of homeowners report making extensive changes to their master bedrooms, with more than half describing the renovations as major.

Importantly for stores like Ralph’s Furniture, the study establishes a crucial link between renovations and decorating. “The findings show that nine in 10 bedroom renovations are followed by redecorating, and nearly half of bedroom decorating comes after a renovation,” according to Nino Sitchinava, principal economist at Houzz, a digital platform for home remodeling and design.

In their tastes, approximately one-third of homeowners lean toward calming colors and prints, such as shades of white, cream, gray, and blue in their revamped master bedrooms. More than a quarter of respondents do not want a strong pattern in the master bedroom (27 percent), though floral and geometric designs showed well (21 and 17 percent, respectively).

Heading the list of what homeowners want in a desirable master bedroom is 1) space that is stylish and beautiful (73 percent); 2) feels like a sanctuary (54 percent) and, 3) reflects who they are (52 percent). For functionality, homeowners want a master bedroom that 1) promotes quality sleep (77 percent), 2) is comfortable (75 percent) and, 3) easy to clean (40 percent).
